strainer basket leaking

hello people, i have a strange problem im hoping you can help me with, i have a aquastar one horse power pump that when the pump is off the strainer basket lid leaks but not when its running. iv taken the top off and cleaned the o-ring and made sure the lid is on as tight as i can get it. im about ready to replace the O-ring but thought id ask here first.

You could try lubing the o-ring first then replace it if that doesn't work.

Like Bama said. Get you some silicone lube from a, gosh I hate to say it, pool store. Smear it all over the O ring and tighten the lid back on there. See if that does it.
