I read a lot on this site about adding salt to the pool to make the water better.I know the indication is that it is an arbitrary thing but could someone elaborate a little.

Some people just the like feel of the water with a small residual of salt in there. Some people will say that the water feels wetter and silky when salt has been added. I am able to notice some difference in my own pool since I began using bleach for chlorination, since using bleach adds a small amount of salt each time you dose your pool with it. That's pretty much the long and short of it.
I have never noticed a salt tast in my water, regardless of which chlorination method I use (except of course SWG).......there's just not enough unless you intentionally add salt.
