Lowering TA

Do I have to lower my PH all the way from 7.6 to 7.2 to have an effect on TA?

I would feel more comfortable bringing it down to say 7.4 and then aerating to bring back up and then repeat.

However, I don't want to go the effort if that swing won't really lower my TA

Adding acid is what lowers TA. In theory, you can lower your TA just as rapidly by shooting for 7.4, it will just take more frequent additions of a smaller amount of acid.

It won't hurt to lower it to 7.2. The SWG will make it the pH rise fairly rapidly, so don't worry about it. Just use the Pool Calc and make sure you are confident that you are determining the amount of acid correctly. IF you aren't sure, just post back and we'll confirm it for you.
