BBQ Island and PVC Fence - Newbie

I have been lurking around and getting a ton of great ideas. I am still in the design phase of a new, and first, build. My big questions is placement. How close can I place the island to a PVC fence without having a heat problem. It is going to be a 36" grill on approximately a 36" counter. I was planning on leaving 1 foot between the counter and the fence and the counter will have no back splash.

IMO...just make sure the grill itself is at least 3ft away from any structure, including the fence. Too many variables such as july4th grease fires etc.
