Cleaning sand filter with a Degreaser

When we had our pool put in late fall of 08. They gave me a bunch of chems that went with it. I say gave, I am sure i bought them somehow. One of them is a degreaser for the filter. It says to use it 2 times a year.. says to backwash filter first and pour this into the skimmer and let it get into the filter and then turn it off for an hour.. then it says to backwash it again. Does anyone know if i should or should not use this. Or is this one of there pool scams again. It says it has surfactants and caustic soda in it.

It is very unusual to actually need a degreaser for a sand filter. When you do need it, then great, but 99% of the time it is just a waste of money.
