I replaced the sand in my filter last weekend and ever since then I've had to give it daily backwashings. At first, I had assumed it was because the sand was just getting all the smaller stuff that the old sand wasn't capturing, but it has been nearly a week and my pressure goes up about 10 lbs in one day. Might it still be getting the small stuff or is there some problem, like maybe the sand is getting compacted or something like that? Or am I just being silly and should give it at least a month before actually worrying about it?

Fresh sand can get a lot more out of the pool than old sand can, especially if the old sand was channelized. I would give it another week.
