Hi all,

The CL & CS pools (on signature) have the item shown in the picture (sorry for the blurry pic, cell phone).

What are your comments on this item? Does it works ok? works so so? How often has to be serviced? It is the first time I see these installed.

One is installed near the pool pump (CS pool) but the other one is installed with the heat pump?? (CL) Is this normal? or ok? Will take some pictures next time and post them.

The item is an:

Automatic Chlorine / Bromine in Linde Feeder, Model 320

It's a tablet feeder, generally used to dispense trichlor tabs. Also used to continuously add CYA from the trichlor tabs to the pool water until it goes sky-high and renders the chlorine ineffective.

We don't like them for normal clorination (because of that CYA thing), but they can be handy for occasional vacation-type use if you know your chemistry and anticipate the side-effects.

Oh, I see. If anyone knows how to deactivate this, I think it would be better to not use this item I am trying to keep control on FC with the T-100 kit, the Pool Calculator and bleach.

I will try to read more on this, but any other comments would be helpful. (unfortunately I don't only take care of pools, and I regularly find myself with very limited time to do everything  )

I've never deactivated one before but I believe first steps would be to turn off the chlorine control valve located at the base of the feeder tube, and shut any other stop/ball valves that exist between the unit and where it is plumbed into the supply line. At that point you may want to empty the feeder chamber (use gloves to remove tablets) and rinse it out, careful not to splash the solution on yourself or equipment. I can't advise you about uninstalling the unit. If you want to do that, post back and one of our plumbing specialists will address your question. Good luck!

Here's the installation manual:

Polyvue SO many thanks as always! geekgranny, thanks for that last advice too! Will be careful.

I would leave this feeders installed but this pools (CS & CL on signature) don't seem to have a pipe out for water when something like backwashing will be needed but also don't have a automatic refill system. If they had this, then I guess it would be easier to level the CYA level from time to time with no need to uninstall them. These are DE filters and don't know exactly (yet) the proper way to "backwash or clean" them as it is done with a sand filter. But I will take on this later.

Thanks a lot!

Mine was threaded onto the top of a return line. I removed it by screwing it out and put a .39 cent PVC threaded-plug in it's place (after I wrapped some teflon tape on the plug threads that is!).
