Pentair whisperflo

Hello.

I have a 3 hp pentair whisperflo pump that keeps getting hot. Pool guy says either its not getting adequate flow or my wiring is bad meaning the plug i attached to it. My question is what gauge wire should i use? The pump is set to 115v and wanting to just leave a plug on it and not wire into the electicity

There's no 3 hp Whisperflo that takes 115 volts.

What model number do you have?
