New Pool Owner in Orlando

Hi 10! Welcome to TFP. You're in good hands now! And congrat's on deciding to take care of the pool yourself. I'm still kicking myself for not doing so myself sooner. I'm one happy camper now, and saving all kinds of money.

That's the good news. The not-so-good news is the test kit you bought. It's not adequate for your needs. But... you can still use it along side a proper kit, so it's not money wasted. You need to be able to test Calcium Hardness, and you especially need to be able to test your CYA level.

You need one of two recommended kits. The Taylor K-2006C (available on Amazon), or the highly-recommend TF-100 from here. They're more expensive than the kit you have now, but there is no short cutting this. The Trouble Free Pool Care method you'll learn by studying and asking question here works. Hands down. But it relies on one of those kits. So get one of them ordered, and start on Pool School and we'll take good care of you and your pool.
