    Old Pump just died

    Hey All...longtime no posts.....but

My Hayward 1.5 hp single speed pump bit the big one...

    Do I:

    get a new single speed

    get a 2 speed

    or get a variable speed

Thoughts on which way to go!!!
    1) The size of your pool in gallons = 33,500 16x32x40 L
    2) The type filter you have = 300lb Sand
    3) IG
    4) If it's IG, vinyl liner
    5) pump is 1.5hp

If you've got the money to invest up front a variable speed model is the way to go, IMO. Economically the right 2 spd pump comes pretty close to matching up, but a VS has a lot of advantages including but not limited to:
    - Flow flexibility: Great for fine tuning water features, cleaners, and so on.
    - A better motor: Permanent magnet models are much simpler, better sealed, longer lasting, etc. than induction motors.
    - Less noise : The claims of 10 dB seem pretty optimistic, but VS pumps are very quiet. Again, 2 spds are pretty quiet on low speed too.
    - Geek Appeal: They're cool.

OK, we have decided that we will get a 2 speed pump...I have a call into Pool and Spa warehouse and hopfully Paul will do me as right on a pump as he did on a robot
