i did go to my local pool/spa place and they'd never heard of adding borates or boric acid to help stabilize pH and he said they didn't carry any product that would do that. i peaked the sales guy's curiosity though because he said he was going to google it as soon as i left! lol.
Have them look at ProTeam Gentle Spa for spas and ProTeam Supreme Plus for pools. Both are essentially boric acid with a little borax (sodium tetraborate pentahydrate) to have the pH be closer to neutral (boric acid by itself is a little acidic, but not very much). For yourself, you can buy boric acid directly at a lower cost and it's even less expensive to get 20 Mule Team Borax from the grocery store (in the laundry aisle) along with Muriatic Acid (added one after the other to a pool).
