Ditto. I have tried to read the other forums from time to time but the questions are frequently just too silly to spend much effort replying. Similarly, the advice is frequently pretty bad. (the old PF is probably an exception.......but it is dying out as no one new can get on it) I just can't get interested.
Those that do have the kindness and patience to respond on the other forums are truly saints.
If you want good advice from knowledgeable folks, I believe this is the premier site on the net. I shouldn't be quite so authoritative in my remarks because I visit the other sites rarely. I'd like to hear from others who may have a different perspective.

I also check out Garden Web and in the last 6 months have only been interested in 1 post. It was about Blue Haven putting their logo on the top step of a new gunite pool. I thought that was incredibly wrong and then read on to find out that it was in the contract and the owner didn't read through the contract line by line.

I read that too. I think it's a mistake for Blue Haven to put their logo without really emphasizing it to the customer. However, it was in their contract....
I was briefly on Garden Web for a few posts, but got banned for referring to other sites (such as The Pool Forum) since that apparently goes against their policy. I hate the single linear thread format they have.
There are a few other sites I frequent such as poolcenter.com and Pool and Spa Forum which is more focussed on spas and Pool Wizard which ironically promotes a product that uses copper and silver ionization, but you never hear about it on the forum itself. I branched out to most of these others when The Pool Forum locked down and before TFP came alive. The Pool Forum and Trouble Free Pool are the true places with the best advice and most accurate information.

Oh yes - I really HATE the forum set up on GW. The other day someone told another poster to NEVER add any other source of chlorine to the pool other than what the SWG generates. I asked why but he never responded. Chem geek got ROMMED! that's hard to believe. I've referred to other sites on GW too, but no one has said anything to me about it. I don't frequent any other boards since I found this one. I've adopted the BBB method so this fits my needs.
Folks, I want to caution you not to let this thread turn to a "forum bashing" thread. People become really attached to their "home" forums and can get pretty testy when they see them criticized. No sense generating any unnecessary animosity.

What I heard Tag saying was the silliness of helping someone pick out the color of their pool......I agree completely but I didn't see that as a bash against Garden Web but rather a comment that that forum typically does not contain the depth of information found at TFP.
The "wizard" site is another example. I have been on there maybe only twice in my life but found it full of innaccuracies that were never corrected. That bad information wouldn't go without response here or at the old PF. Now, I suppose that could be considered a little bit of a bash but it's the plain, cold truth and I don't think we should have to shy away from that.
We had posted on GW a few weeks ago asking for advice on landscaping options behind our pool and got a pretty

and hired a landscape architect and to retro fit after the fact was a waste of time.

I don't think it is. I think it's a reasonable critique. I've seen similar things happen on other boards where it got too "personal" and it can lead to hard feelings, and an "us vs. them" attitude. It's hard to un-say something, so I just wanted to insert a gentle reminder.

it was totally a slag against "us" not hiring the proper professionals to get it done "right" to begin with. Sorry, if we all can't have unlimited budgets...

I post over at Garden Web quite a bit. While there is a lot of the "what color pebble tec should I get" inanity that tagprod describes, you can get some pretty good information and advice on pool construction there, especially gunite pool construction. Huskyrider, a builder from the Houston area, is a semi-regular there who always has great advice and there are a couple of other builders who do a very nice job.
The chemistry advice over there is too often from the pool store and service/repair people of the "just add a bottle of this magic potion and everything will be better" variety. They often don't even ask about the water chemistry before proffering that advice. There are a few of us who try to carry the PoolForum/TroubleFreePool banner over there, but it's an uphill battle.

Add a little pE- PpE- R+ and it will even keep your alkalinity, calcium hardness and cyanuric acid under control!
Maybe this is why I got kicked off GW too, a few years back.
