My pump basket o-ring is pretty dry, in fact it whistles a slight bit when the pump is first shut off indicating it is letting a bit of air in. What do I lube this oring with?

Pool stores carry a lubricant specifically for it but if your sucking air that much, it probably is mis-seated in the groove or it needs replacing (perhaps even both). A thorough visual inspection will probable reveal to you what the issue is.
jack's lube is a brand name we use, ( it feels like vaseline but it doesn't change viscosity with temperature change like vaseline) but make sure you listen to what duraleigh said.

Though vassoline was mentioned - PLEASE DON'T EVER USE IT ON YOUR POOL GASKETS!
Like any petroleum based product, it will RUIN the gaskets!!
