High Borates

I added borates to my pool according to the directions about three weeks ago, but the borate strip reading is greater than 50. How do I calculate the amount of water I need to replace?

Say you're at 80 ppm borates and you want 50, the fill water has 0 ppm borates:

(80 - 50) ÷ (80 - 0)
30 ÷ 80 = drain and refill about 37%


Another example, if your CH is 600, you want 300 and the fill water is at 50 ppm:

(600 - 300) ÷ (600 - 50)
300 ÷ 550 = drain and refill about 55%.

Calculate the percentage of borates you wish to remove from your pool and remove the same percentage of water.

I realize this is not the question you asked, but if you only overshot a little, (like maybe up to 80).........you might want to read this thread instead of adjusting:

So long as you are measuring under 80 ppm, I wouldn't worry about it.
