i live east of atlanta and would like to know if it would be ok to not close pool? if i do not close pool could i still run pump as needed for freezing temps or should i still run pump daily? i do not have alot of trres to deal with.

It should be fine not to close it. You'll have to keep an eye on the temps and run the pump when it's going below freezing. You'll most likely need to run your pump on warm days and to keep the chemicals distributed because you'll have some winter days that'll be above 60ish (that's funny to our friends further north). Algae will grow at those temps so you'll need to keep a check on your chlorine, etc.
