Matching Pool Pump to Cartridge Filter

First post so be gentle...

I have a 0.75 hp pump and can get a great deal on a Pentair 240 sq ft cartridge filter. Is my pump large enough for this size of filter? My AGP is 12 x 24 x 52".

Thanks for your help!

Hi, Joe,

Welcome. Here's some quick guidelines......

Your pump should pump enough gpm to "turn over" your pool 2-3 times in a 24 hour period. 3/4 hp should be plenty for that.

Then, your filter should have a rating (in gpm) that exceeds what the pump produces.....my guess is your pump in that pool probably pumps around 30-45gpm. As long as your filter exceeds that 30-45gpm rating you're good to go.

The filter can virtually never be too large for your pump.
