Opening Concrete pool

A few people pool places I called all tell me they charge $400 to open my pool because it's concrete and they need to drain it and power wash it to get spores out of concrete. And this is not needed for liner pools.
Is this true? I'm sure the last guy who owned this house did not do this as he opened the pool himself and he did not mention power washing to me.

I am not a pool expert at all,but I think they are trying to pull one over on you. I have a gunite pool also and we do not drain and power wash it when we open it.

ROFL! I have never heard of this. Open and maintain your own pool really there is no reason to ever visit a pool store. Do you have a proper test kit? You need to test and maintain chlorine levels in your water asap or you are going to have a swamp.
