DE filter with well water

This is related to a question I asked in another section.

For my new pool, should I favor a cartridge filter over a DE filter if I have well water?

I do not have a water softener - I am questioning the effect that iron and other minerals could have when I have to add water after backwashing.

Or is it not that big of a deal?

The best thing to do is have your water fully tested now. You may have problem minerals and you may not. A cartridge filter uses the least water, but you will still have to add water for evaporation and splash-out, so you can't use water that has serious problems even for that.
