    Efficient cell usage

I have an dig 220 AutoPilot SWG with an SC48 cell. I was wondering in terms of cell life is it better to have a higher purifier output with a lower cell power or lower purifier output with a higher cell power or does it not make any difference?

    Re: Efficient cell usage

The opinion of the experts on this forum is that it really does not make a difference. The life of a cell can be measured in amp hours, or the current through the cell times the number of hours at that currrent. The amp-hours is also linearly (almost) related to the amount of chlorine produced. So as long as the same amount of chlorine is produced, the life of the cell remains the same.

However there is some indication that the amount of chlorine used by a pool depends on when and how that chlorine is added to the pool. Because the amount of chlorine used is related to the chlorine level, if you add all of the chlorine needed by a pool at one time, then the chlrine usage will be greater than if you add chlorine throughout the day. However the difference will be fairly small.

dschlic1 is correct. It doesn't matter and does not affect the overall life of your cell.

However, with the AutoPilot's temperature compensation feature, keep your Purifier Output in the middle range, 40 - 60%. So, adjust the Cell Power if you need to. The factory setting is Cell Power 1.

This gives you maximum fluctuation on the Automatic Temperature Compensation feature.
