Here is a little about our project. I have been talking with the builder/installer, since July of last year. They make their own fiberglass pools and are only a couple of hours away; so, I stopped by to get a tour of their facilities and learn about their processes, materials, workmanship, and quality control. They also had a few pools installed on site. Everything looked pretty good. They gave me a huge list of 1,200 references. I called everyone in my county that had a pool installed by them in the last five years. A lot of people, but I wish I had done so with my first pool since I had a number of isues with the builder. I think everyone called me back and all had positive experiences. We also went to see a customer’s pool and it looked great.

We placed a deposit last November just before we moved in to our new house to ensure we saved a date for an April install. And, of course duirng the downtime, I came up with many ways to increase cost.

They started last Tuesday. We have a very small yard (40 deep x 70 wide with 10 ft. setbacks all around) so this pool is a tight fit. Here are pictures from the first two days. My lot ends at the grass line and the area they initially placed the pool while digging is a vacant lot for a new house. Day one they dug the hole and installed the equipment/plumbing and day two they set the pool. They were supposed to hook up the electrical tomorrow, but moved it to Thursday due to rain. Glass tile for the waterline should also be this week. Next week should be a retaining wall, concrete collar, and paver patio. They plan to be done by the week of 5/4 and my fence should be installed by a separate company on 5/12. Hopefully goes all well and we are swimming soon.

Hi [emoji1309] You have done so much right already. Checking out the manufacturing process and calling references is a great way to choose a builder. How big is your pool? It looks like a great size and a good fit for your yard. I hear you on the tight fit. We are currently building a tiny inground pool in our very inaccessible, small backyard. It’s been an interesting process. So good that you had access to dig via the empty block. Sounds like you will be swimming in no time! We started Feb 1st and still going [emoji31] Keep us updated with photos and ask all and any questions you might have.

Yes, that lot helped a lot. The land is still owned by the developer and they let us dump all the excavated dirt on the lot, so that saved a little money. Good luck with your pool!

Slow week because the pool install started two weeks early but the rest of the project is on the original schedule. Pavers were delivered and 2 of the 15 total pallets for the retaining wall. Wall construction starts Monday.

The paver pattern we are using. Coping will match the paver color.

Tomorrow should be the start of a busy week. According to the email I received on Friday:
- Tomorrow (Monday) the retaining wall build will start
- Tuesday will be tile and electrical hook up
- Wednesday the wall will be complete, tile grouted, pool backfilled, and pool filled with water
- Thursday the concrete collar poured and piers installed (to add stability for paver in one area per engineer)
- Friday begin paver installation

Weather looks good all week. I will post photos along the way.

Well, the project was on schedule until about an hour ago when the county inspector said the PB did not include the retaining wall in the plans. Not sure how long of a delay there will be. I was told as little as a day if the PB has all the pertinent info ready.

Any way, electrical, wall and tile were all completed.

The PB submitted the “necessary” permit for the wall and called the county to get them to agree that the job can move forward while the permit is being approved. So we are back on schedule.

Concrete came today to pour a 12” collar around the pool. They drilled holes in the shell and placed rods through them to lock the concrete and shell together and prevent any possibility of the shell pulling away from the patio. They also poured concrete under the tanning ledge for better stability. One other thing that was done was to use zip ties around all the pvc pipes to relieve some of the stress on them cause by the gravel backfill. Finally, they poured a concrete slab between the pool and the foundation since they wanted to ensure the pavers would not settle due to all the backfill material in that location.

Pavers should start Monday and pool should be done by the end of next week.
