What type of coping do you have ? We had a pool built 4 months ago and had a SWG put in. We also selected a flagstone coping that matched the color in our tile very nicely. One problem, the poolbuilder said NOTHING about salt water's affect on flagstone. Destin Pools didn't tell us to seal the flagstone, didn't tell us the salt would break down the flagstone and the grout. Basically, didn't do anything, but take our money and give us headaches that are still unresolved. Be careful when using a SWG.

When we had our pool put in 4 months ago, we decided to go with a SWG instead of an inline chlorinator. We then had to pick the tile and coping we wanted, and decided to go with a marbled yellow and brown tile with a flagstone coping that matched the colors very well. The first problem we had was the sprayed on "cool deck". It wasn't covering all the deck (it had uncovered nooks and crannys). We had the poolbuilder(PB) out, and he agreed it needed to be reapplied. So he sends out a lady with a can of concrete sealer that matched the color almost, and she rolled on the sealer. Now the surface was slicker than a skating rink. Called the PB and he sent out another "painter" with concrete sealer that had grit added to it. The surface now scrapes your skin when you slip on the sealer.
Then we questioned why sand was accumulating on the bottom of the pool everyday and why the flagstone was flaking in large pieces. It seems the two are related. Apparently, if you don't seal the flagstone, the salt water disolves it and the grout. Now the PB won't even return our calls or emails. Had he informed us that this would have occured, we would have selected another coping, or at least sealed it before water was added and the deterioration began. Any ideas on resolving the problem ? (And please, shooting the PB has already come to mind !).

Did not inform us that combining a salt water system with flagstone coping was a BAD IDEA, or that sealing the flagstone should be done and redone every year. A legitimate pool builder should advise their clients of any and all pitfalls, and Destin Pools did nothing, but take our money and won't answer our calls or emails. Proceed with caution. We now have a four month old pool that is falling apart.
