Is it possible to put a ball valve on the 1 1/2" clean out of my DE filter? I would love to be able to connect the drain hose without wrestling against the water rushing out at the same time!

Yes it is, in fact I rarely see a filter like that without one. Although I would recommend a gate valve since ball valves and slide valves seem to get quickly jammed up with de and get hard to operate. Gate valves look like what you would find on a spigot to turn on your garden hose. These are the only valves I've seen not get jammed up with earth
Great! Doesn't have to be any special valve, just whatever I find at the hardware store?
Yeah just goto lowes etc. and put some parts together just keep in mind some metal fittings have different thread types. I highly recommend gates valves since they won't get hard to turn
