Hi all,
I am having issues with my 2 month old Marquis Spirit spa. Three days ago I discovered the water was in pretty poor condition, unfortunately I had been neglecting to test it for several days. My FC was <1 at this point. I popped in a new Spa-Frog in-line bromine cartridge and shocked to 10ppm with Dichlor as I have been doing periodically. At this point I finally caught on that my frequent dichlor shocks may have led to a CYA problem, which I tested and found ~90ppm. At this point I decided to change my water, but unfortunately I didn't realize at the time I should do a flush treatment like Ahh-some. When I pulled the filter I discovered lots of leaves and plant matter covered in white bacterial grossness, so I skimmed as much of that stuff out as possible and drained the tub. I really wish I had done a flush but instead we simply drained, scrubbed and immediately refilled, followed by a 13ppm shock using dichlor.
Now that it is refilled I am having issues with crazy high chlorine demand after shocking. My initial 13ppm shock after the refill had diminished to about 1ppm in the morning (<24h). I tried again, but with bleach to avoid CYA buildup, this time shocking to 11ppm, and this morning I read 1.5. This is a almost a %90 CD in like 18 hours. After reading more about biofilms I am sufficiently paranoid and worried to go in. My tub has an ozonator but from what I am reading that can't account for this dramatic of a CD.
Is it time to accept that I may have a biofilm growing? Or is it possible I am still working through a reserve of organic material caught in the pipes that would eventually get oxidized down if I keep shocking? I have some ahh-some coming from Amazon but was hoping I wouln't have to waste all this water right after my refill, though maybe that is par for the course while learning.
The water itself seems very clear and reasonably pleasant. Very little cloudiness with perhaps a minor combined chlorine smell immediately after opening the cover.
Currently I have:
FC: 1.5ppm
CC: 2ppm
CYA: <30ppm
PH: 7.4
TA: 100ppm
Thanks so much for any help!
