is this the gunite layer

Is this the gunite layer showing through the plaster that is now almost completely gone? It crumbles if I rub on it. I hear that the last time the pool was plastered was more than 15 years ago. It had a black-plaster then, and the color started to fade after a few years.

The pool is about to get resurfaced and am going with plain white plaster as the surface.

It is hard to tell. Is that the edge of a seat or shelf? Can you feel where it looks like the plaster ends? I think it might be where the plaster wore off over time so that would be the gunite showing through.

What do the people doing the plaster say? What are they going to do to get the old plaster ready for the new?

I have yet to ask about the spots in the picture. The pool contractor that the existing plaster would be chipped with an electrical jackhammer.

Plaster chip out is under way! It took three days to drain the pool.

"Gunite is tore up" - is it looking bad? should I be concerned?

That is a serious chip out.

It's probably ok, but the gouges seem pretty deep.

They should be just getting the plaster.

Some gunite will be chipped away but that seems excessive.

LOL it really does look as if they used a ripper bucket on it.
