When to skim, when to vacuum?

Hi! Any advice on how to split time between a vacuum and a skimmer? Currently I run the skimmer on low for 4 hours (will bump that up to 8 when we start swimming). As for the vacuum, from what I under
stand, it needs to be used on high. The problem is that I have to manually switch the valve from skimming to vacuum. Would you recommend I use the vacuum every day?
Or can I run the skimmer daily, then only run the vacuum once a week?
I think the previous owner split the valve so it was half vacuum and half skimmer- would that work? Seems like the vacuum wouldn't have enough power.

Krys,

I have a Robot pool cleaner and not a vacuum pool cleaner, but the basic idea is still the same. I only run my robot about once a week... More if I can see 'stuff' on the bottom of the pool I want to vacuum up..

I agree that your vacuum cleaner would most likely not run well with a 50/50 split..

Thanks for posting,

Jim R.
