Replacing sand in filter

The 1.5 hp SuperPump will hit about 90 gpm during a backwash. That's about 29 gpm per square foot of sand surface area.

Ideal flow is about 15 gpm per square foot of sand surface area.

So, your flow rate is almost double ideal.

It might be worthwhile replacing the impeller with a smaller size.

A SPX2607C or SPX2605C would work.

Also, get a k-1766 salt test kit.

Does the debris disappear when you try to net it out or can you net it out?

If you brush that material shown in your picture does it 'poof' away? If so, most likely dead algae. Let us know.

The problem is that the dust will probably never go away without a full SLAM.

Try maintaining fc at 15% of CYA for a while to see if it goes away. If it persists, consider a full SLAM.

Note that mustard algae will mostly go through a sand filter, especially when the pump is oversized for the filter.
