First pool....am I getting this right? :-) Overkill? Halp!

Hi all!

We are waiting arrival of our first pool....a 16 x 8 with a 42 depth. I intend on using it with a harness to resistance train and do 'laps'. Also to float around in with a bevvie! ;-)

It's on the smaller side but it fits perfectly where we want to have it.
I got an overkill (I think?) sand filter and salt water filtration. How much salt will I need to buy with this system?

Sand filter:

Salt System:

I also got this sand for it....will this be enough?

I heard I needed this adaptor for the above system, is this correct?

Also got this heater, I'm thinking it may work ok with a smaller pool like this, what do you think? We are in Florida.

Also going to buy this and cut it, for additional heat....
Amazon.com : Thermo-Tex 12 Outdoor

As for cleaning and such, I got the following. Is there anything else I need?
Cleaning set:

Skimmer:

Vac:

The harness I got for it in case anyone was wondering:

As for the bottom of the pool, I've heard so many different ways to do it. So far I've only bought this elephant pad:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B7MYER0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

What kind of foam do I need to put under this? Or does it go on top of the Elephant pad? Any links to something at Home Depot, etc? Should I use the tarp that comes with the pool as well or will it just come apart? We are in Florida and the pool will be staying put....
Any links to a better tarp would be great:)

We plan on putting paved stone around the pool, and also pave squares for the legs....is that good?
I'm going to tiki this thing out! Bamboo and reed ready to go!

SO EXCITED!

Anything else you think we need to get this going, please let me know! :) Thanks so much! I can't wait!
Photos to come as things progress!

Welcome to the forum!

Every time I have been to Niagara Falls I have not seen palm trees ---------

Can you put the location of the planned pool in your Member profile?

Also a signature with your planned components, etc. See Pool School - Getting Started

Take care.

Sure, will do as soon as I get home!
We are snowbirds, Niagara Falls Canada in the summer, and Merritt Island Florida in the winter:)

Looks like you have a great start to a new pool. Don't forget the solid concrete blocks for under the frame uprights. Get the 4 inch thick ones they cost less than $2 each at your local home improvement store. You need one block for every upright.

The one thing I would take off your list is that solar heater. Those style heaters really don't work all that well. They just aren't big enough to provide meaningful heat for the pool. If you can find a place to put it get something like https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00IUIBRD8/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1518291852&sr=8-6&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=pool+solar+heater&dpPl=1&dpID=61EBH9fzaoL

Ahhh! Thanks CJadamec! I didn't know they had to be 4 inches. Perfect, we'll get those, thank you!
Funny, I had that exact heat system you mentioned in my cart ready to go just in case this one doesn't work. I figured with a small pool in Florida, it would be enough, but if not, I'll go for this one! :)
Thanks again, good to know we are on the right track....

Pool arrives this Tuesday, and the Elephant pad on Wed, so we'll start the set up on Wed I guess. Going to home depot tomorrow and hoping someone will know what kind of foam to put down underneath.
