Shocking and Solar Covers

Should you keep your solar cover off for the night after you shock your pool? I used to use dichlor or cal hypo to shock my pool and recently switched to 6% bleach. I felt the cover may be harmed by the higher chlorine levels so I leave it off for the night, but the night temps here have been in the 50's so I lose heat.

My covers usually last 5-7 years.

Actually, you want to leave the pool uncovered while you shock for a few reasons. There are volitile oxidation byproducts that need to gas off and also you want the pool to be exposed to sunlight while shocking since UV light plays a part in destroying CC. Damage to the solar cover is not a concern. Solar covers are destroyed by sunlight much more than by chlorine!
