I normally try to keep my FC between 7 and 10 PPM. In the winter can the FC be lower or should I still keep it this high?

FC should be the same regardless of the season. Your consumption will be MUCH slower in the cooler temps. What is your CYA?
My CYA looks to be low, between 20 and 30
FC = 6ppm
CYA = between 20 and 30
CH = 300ppm
TA = 150 ppm
My FC has been low and i have been slowly bringing it up and I saw a little bit of Algae on the metal part of the pool light this morning.

Brush. Your pool currently has enough chlorine but brushing and vacuuming remain an essential part of TFP Pool Care.
Aargh, I know. Out of everything i have to do with the pool brushing is my least favorite.
I did brush this morning and added bleach so by tonight by FC should be up to abou 10 - 12 ppm. I will let that settle over the next few days.
What about my cya, is that too low?
I have read it should be closer to 50.

In this cool weather, there is no real point in increasing your CYA. Your FC consumption will be very low so leave your CYA alone.
Plan on bumping CYA to 50 when you start the swim season or a little before.
You are wasting some FC.....I would suggest letting it get down around 4 ppm and keeping it there.

Ok, greate. This was exactly the kind of information I was looking for. I also plan to only run my pump about 6 hours a day, combined these things should save me some time and money over the winter.
How about the pH? Important to know this. With a TA of 150 I suspect it is driving your pH up. Need to keep it in check along with the FC.

I will add you probably don't need to run your pump 6 hours a day in winter months.
My last pool was about the same size as yours at 19,000 gallons.
During the winter, I only ran the pump for 2 hours on saturday each week.
I kept the FC around 10 (it had very high cya) all winter and never had any
problem with that amount of pump run time.

Are you saying you only ran the pump for 2 hours a week? or 2 hours a day? I plan to leave my pool open (but not swim in it) if that makes a difference.
I just tested my PH and it is between 7.8 and 8.2, looks to be closer to 7.8.
