I’m new here and earned a lot so far reading this forum. I’m about to start the dig on a 20 x 45 gunite pool with built in spa and auto cover hidden under the coping. It will be a saltwater system.

Ive read a ton about glass installs. Clearly the industry prefers porcelain and I have quite a few friends that have glass and they ALL complain of cracking and chipping. My PB informed the key is in the install and they will actually outsource to a specialist to install which will cost me an extra $3000 for the labor. I’m fine with the cost, but should I stay away anyway? Is there anyone happy with glass tile in the cold weather swings of the northeast?

If you are inclined to spend the extra $3,000 for a quality specialist install, I would ask for referrals. And not just so you can speak to them on the phone, but physically are able to see the install. Most people have no issues in inviting other people to see a quality transformed back yard. I have had people over (of course from friends) so they can get some ideas. Not that often, but it happens.

Your case is not a typical install. I would be careful on this one. What type of warranty will you be receiving, and for how long? How long has the specialist been in business? Do some research before moving forward.

Lifting a few springs on a winter cover is easy if they are willing. Before it snows that is.
