sand filter laterals....screen up, down etc?

newbie question.....
which way do the screens need to face? i can't get them all to face the same direction and was wondering if that is going to affect the performance?

They should face down, generally. If you can't get them all that way, no big deal. It will backwash more thoroughly with them all pointed down.

thanks.....i forgot to add it was for a tagelus sand filter. i happen to be takling to a guy a the mall today and he has a tagelus, screens down!! sometimes it pays to go shopping with "her majesty".
