High TDS and nasty green water

Help! My pool was looking just fine about 3 weeks ago, but it started to get a little cloudy, then we left on vacation on the 9th of July. The house sitter put a jug of bleach in every night but it kept getting worse. By the time we got home on the 21st it was a deep green color. I put 8 jugs (96oz.) in that night and this morning (23rd) it looks just as bad. Took a sample to the pool store and here are the #'s: FC & TC: 0 , pH: 8.2, TA: 120, CH: 150, CYA: 35, Phosphates: 300, and TDS: 1750 . Their recommendation is to drain it and start over, what do ya'll think?

That's ridiculous, stop going to that pool store.

Phosphates and TDS are irrelevant - ignore them.

You simply need to shock properly.

Read how to shock your pool, and Defeating Algae, in Pool School.

Do you have a test kit of your own? So you don't need to rely on their testing to receive their bad advice?

Before you begin to shock, lower that PH down to 7.2 TODAY, ASAP.

I was hoping for that advice . Now if only I didn't have to work full time and could spend a few days working on it . Looks like I need to find a local supplier of 12.5% bleach. And by the way, I'm ordering a TF kit today .

    Darned Jobs...

The weekend? Just how you wanted to spend it right?

Even shocking in the a.m. before work, then focusing on hourly additions in the evening, you'll make progress, it just might take you a little longer than normal.
