What they did wrong was to not rinse the furniture after a swimmer had used it :hammer:

Here's the scenario - person gets out of the pool in a bathing suit soaked in ~3000 ppm saline water and sits on a chair. The suit drips, wetting chair. The 3000 ppm water isn't going to attack the metal quickly however, as the water evaporates, the salt doesn't and soon gets to be 2X + as salty and attacks the furniture. The solution is to either have swimmers rinse off before using the furniture or rinsing the furniture after everyone's done swimming/ using it. It also happens to diving board bolts and slide ladders. If you have a SWCG, keep a hose handy and use it after people swim :)
 
Waste is right,

I could see myself forgetting to rinse things down. As stated, the salt doesn't start "destroying" the metal instantly. After everyone is done swimming, taking 2 minutes to rinse down the furniture etc would be more than enough to keep things in good shape.
