Been lurking on TFP for a few weeks... bought my test kit Saturday. The start of the process was really annoying, but it was no fault of the pool builder. It was mostly logistics stuff on my side. We started this discussion in the early parts of June. We finally got the go ahead from the HOA this morning. As soon as I let the PB know, they started coordinating the crews. About 1 hour after my text, PB called and ask if we could get started tomorrow. I said SUUUURE why not.

This all started with the wife and I wanting to have a larger covered patio. This led to, "let's build a pool first and do the covered patio next year". So, here we are.

24'X40' rectangular pool, 4' to 6' depth
~ 1,800 sq ft of decking, stamped concrete
1' raised wall, 12' long, with 4' sheer decent
2 2'x2' raised column, with 1' sheer decent
Pentair Easytouch 8 w/wireless remote, Screen Logic2 w/wireless kit
Pentair CCP520
Pentair Intelliflo VSF
3 Pentair LED lights
3 Pentair LED bubblers
Polaris 1.5hp QT Blower
Polaris 9350
Wet Edge Northshore Tahoe finish
8'x12' pool shed for storage and the pool equipment

The layout, in terns of the deep end, is probably a little "unconventional". We will have 40' length of 6' deep pool. We wanted it this way so we can have a swim lane, even if there are people playing in the shallow end of the pool. Something like this, head on from the "short side" of the pool.

Here's the lot we are working with. We have 2 acres. We are thinking about extending the fencing in the back. This will give the dogs more room to run.

Here, the slope isn't in the final shape. We have 8' of 6' deep water, but we'll settle with 6' of 6' deep water.

This one shows the correct water wall and location of the storage shed, but minus some of the pretty landscaping. We haven't decided what to do about landscaping yet. We originally didn't want any features at all. But we ended up with a few so we can enjoy the sound of the water even if we aren't in the water.

We are excited, but I am now a little nervous at the same time! So far the pool builder has been great. Fingers crossed that the weather will cooperate! Here we go!

Welcome to the forum! Get ready --- you will get lots of ideas to spend lots more money on bling!

At least access is not an issue -----------

Have fun -- Good Luck.

Which part of town are you located? Obviously, from the pic above you don't live in town!

Looks like a nice plan! How are you sanitizing your pool? Salt or chlorine?

Thanks! it'll be salt.

I am out in Richmond. Our decision actually was either to sell the house and move into town or do something with the house now. Decided to stick with the house since it'll be really hard to replace the space and value we have right now.

S,

Welcome to TFP... A Great resource for all new pool builders with "acreage"... :drown:

It appears your pool will be in the 30K gallons or more range.. Since you are going with a salt system, make sure you get the Pentair IC60 salt cell which is rated for a 60K pool.

Because cells are rated when running at 100% 24/7, we always recommend getting a salt cell that is at least 2 x the volume of your pool.

My whole neighborhood could fit into your lot..... :p

Thanks for posting,

Jim R.

Welcome to TFP...very nice property for a pool build! I like the design but the wall needs some more thought in my mind. Is it tall enough and long enough for that size pool? How big is the ledge area with the bubblers? The pool depth of 4' to 6' is good but maybe a little deeper on the far end for the adventurous types :) plus it looks like you will get lots of sun so the shallow water will get warm for sure in that Houston heat...

Keep the pics and questions coming, work on your signature line with pool details in it, consider the TF-100 test kit and TFP membership...all of this will be to your benefit for sure!

Welcome to TFP! We just started our pool build last week and we are going with WetEdge Northshore Tahoe finish too :) When we were trying to decide on what color to go with we went to several pools in the area and really loved the color of that one.

This is a great site with a lot of helpful and fun people. You are in good hands with any and all questions you have.

They are digging as I type! Will post a few pics in a bit.

There's a reason for the shorter wall... we are going to build a pool/ guest house on that far right side in a couple of years. So we decided to keep the wall shorter so it wouldn't look as strange coming off the front patio of the guest house.

I will check on the cell size.

The ledge is roughly 7'x11'.

Pics are coming.

Excavation is done. Steel and rough plumbing is supposed to be on Thursday. Gunite is supposed to be Friday. But alas, it's supposed to rain around here. Soooo. We will see.

When we built the house, even though we are outside of the floodplain, we asked for the house to be built up higher. Well, to level the pool and deck, then we need lots of dirt! Good thing we have been digging this giant hole in the ground.

The rebar people showed up today. It was supposed to be tomorrow, but they had a job cancellation, probably due to rain up on the north side, and they asked if they could show up. Suuuure why not.

A few more pictures from yesterday.

This was taken around 5:30 pm or so. Shows where the pool will be shadowed during the afternoon. Should make hanging out back great in the afternoon.

good luck man! will be really nice when done! i wish i was on more land. i would be fishing every day if i had that water across from me!

The two lakes are catch and release. I don't dish there but apparently it's not terrible. There is a risk of catching gators in there though... Our neighborhood gets gator tags each year. We are close to the state park which has lots of gators. They occasionally make their way here.

Pool building is a messy business, especially if it rains. Of course timing would have it that the forecast has a week worth of rain coming.

Currently plumbing is tomorrow and gunite Friday. But not sure if they can get there. We did get steel done today at least. But it was messy. I feel for the guys doing the work.

I sent the drone down there for a few pics since it got sort of muddy.

They covered the edges to keep the dirt from washing off when more rain hits.

Coming along nicely...hope you get a break in the weather so you can at least get gunite done.

Regardless of the rain, I am excited the TF-100 Test kit comes in today. I am going to practice using the kit and test the fill water. We have a community well. We've never had water issue, but the water is hard... though the city water is hard as well. Hopefully the water won't be too much of an issue.

ya I'm out. I way I would want to mess with a gator. I never thought about that with down south. You got to really be on ur toes even if on a boat!

Way to go shingles...now get that TFP supporter badge...not being pushy I just think this site is awesome and so worth a few pennies compared to a pool build :)
