Should I turn my SWG "off" when adding chemicals like CYA to my pool? I usually don't for acid or baking soda...but since CYA takes so long to dissolve I was wondering if it might damage the cell in some way.

No, you don't have to turn off the SWG when adding chemicals although the only chemical you should add to the skimmer basket is CYA.
