Cleaning a cartridge

On a normal basis, I just hose down the filter cartridge. I was told by the Leslie store clerk that you are supposed to use their special cartridge cleaner once a year. I did that and have since replaced that cartridge and I'm about a year into the new cart.

Since finding this forum, I'm suspect of much of what they tell me at the store so should I be cleaning the cart and if so, do I need their extra special secret cartridge wash to do it?

I confess that in 8 years, I've only "soaked" it once, last fall. Usually we just hose it off and that's all....
