I am just wondering... do we in the swimming pool world worry about chloramines in tap water?
In the aquarium world, it was very important to know the difference between tap water with chlorine and tap water with chloramine. Of course, we would always dechlorinate the tap water but if the system used chloramines then breaking the bond between the chlorine and the ammonia and destroying the chlorine would leave you with some amount of ammonia and quite often dead fish in the tank. The rule of thimb we used was that if you let the water sit for day with agitation the chlorine would likely be gone. With chloramine, that would take a month.
From time to time I read about ammonia in the swimming pool and how much of an issue that can be as far as chlorine consumption to rid the pool of it. So, should people be concerned about whether their tap water contains ammonia at the time they fill the pool?
