Standard versus uprated motor.

So what exactly is the difference between a standard rated motor and an uprated motor?

I see the Pentair Whisperflo wfds-4 is 1 HP(standard) and uses 7.8/3.0 amps on high/low speed and the Whisperflo is wfds-26 is 1.5 HP(uprated) and uses the same power.

Is it the same internals just being driven and rated at the higher HP or what?

There are many different ways to measure HP, and over the years marketing pressure has caused manufacturers to list higher and higher HP numbers in their advertising, independent of what the pump can actually do.

A uniform way of comparing pumps is to look at their brake HP, which is the advertised HP times the service factor (SF). Up rated, max rated, full rated, etc have become a kind of marketing short hand for indicating what the SF is.
