We are shopping for a solar cover reel and have seen 2 types for AG pools....the one with the posts that fit in to holders and the one with the hand type holders that just sit on the rails.....is one better than the other?

Also looking at having something on the ground to put reel on when the kids are swimming...is one easier to build a ground holder for than the other?

Any advice would be appreciated

We got the type that fits into the holder. We didn't want to mount the holders to the side of the pool so, we put in two 4x4 post at pool height at the end of our oval pool. When we want the reel complete off the pool, we just lift if off and put in on the fence. We just completed this project this weekend and I still need to take pictures.

Or in the alternative, you can build a whole reel that sits off the pool completely and is never "on" the pool - only the cover is when you need it. See other posts by me and Matt4x4 for details.

Here's ours. It so easy now. We lift the whole thing and let it sit on brackets we installed on the fence.

We ended up getting the reel with the hand type holders that just sit on the sides....and then putting heavy duty brackets on the fence, much like those in kilika's pics. It works great and the fence is close enough that it's a one person job.
Thanks for all the suggestions.
