Kids are in the pool with friends. My daughter calls me over...There's a ton of water sloshing out of the skimmer basket (outside the pool)... and the pump window housing part...was only about 1/3 full of water. The kids were doing ALOT of jumping around...making waves....It seemed the skimmer basket would suck up all the water (and air I'm assuming), then fill up with too much water....repeating this over and over again.

I just shut off the pump and turned it back on after the kids were done and the water was calm. Everything seems good again.

Is this normal?

The kids displaced the water above the level of the skimmer. When that happens, a: water comes out the top of it, and b: your skimmer weir can get stuck sticking straight up, allowing the skimmer to pull air. That's what caused the air in the pump.

Turning the pump off 'til they got out was the right solution.
