Pentair Piston broken in housing

The backwash valve was broken in the open position, so I have to fix it before I can start treating the swamp.

It's a Pentair 27-3241 part, and it pulled out easily, but the lowest disk/o-ring at the bottom of the stem is broken off in the housing. What is the best way to remove it? Please tell me I can remove it! I have a really long forceps-style clamp, but I'm hesitant to go poking around without having some idea what to do.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Nolly

I took a Maglite out to the pool shed and, lo & behold, the housing is clear. Is it possible that the broken piece blew out the backwash hose? If so, it isn't slowing anything down.

Ordered a new part from Amazon & it'll be here Sunday. Grandson's pool party coming up!

Thanks to everyone who uses this forum--it's a winner.
