Alternative approach to deep cleaning sand filter

So everything I do is per instructions, but instead of letting the water spill over the top of the filter, I bring the water to the brim of the stand pipe, and then shop vac the water out. I repeated this three times. The reason is the sand filter is inside out shed...

Is three times enough? Water still had some **** in it (i didn't vac too close to top of sand), and following this, vac to waste, then backwash, then rinse, then normal filter operation.

Thoughts?

It sure does not sound like enough to me. I seem to recall where members do this and they are overflowing the filter for a long time and still seeing debris come out.

I seriously doubt 3 times barely even phased it. Did mine after 5 years of operation and let it overflow for at least an hour and a half or so. That's while gently poking the hose around on low flow.
