Ideal CYA when using Liquid Chlorine

I live in Mississippi and it gets pretty darn hot in the summer. What is the ideal CYA when using liquid chlorine for all sanitation? Also, if I add more stabilzer how long should I wait before I SLAM the pool?

30 CYA is ideal for doing the SLAM. If you're below that, add enough to get to 30 and just pretend it's all dissolved already and SLAM at 12 FC.

After the pool is all sparkling and crystal clear, raise it to about 50 CYA. Unless the pool is out in a wide-open field where it gets full sun all day, that should be plenty.

Troublefree does not mean Maintenancefree. It's like brushing your teeth: You can spend a couple minutes a day and pennies a week or go to the dentist once a year and spend several thousand dollars.
A pool is like a pet - you have to feed it every day, even the days you don't want to play with it!

There is no ideal. It is a balance of pros and cons.

Raise up to about 30ppm of CYA for the SLAM.

If your pool gets a lot of sun, then after the SLAM raising the CYA up to around 50ppm might lower your FC losses to the sun.
