The guy at the pool store told me muratic acid wasn't safe for a vinyl lined pool.I guess maybe cause he doesnt sell it

You want to add it by pouring it slowly in front of a return jet with the pump on, so it will distribute fairly quickly. It can damage the liner if you just dump it in and it doesn't distribute right away.
