    foam for pool base

I am seeing where many are using "foam" as a base under liner. What type of foam is being used? Thanks for helping !

This is one that is used. There are some that use the black mats you can buy from Harbor Freight. I think they come in packs of 4. I can't find a link for them though.

    Shop Expanded Polystyrene Foam Board Insulation (Common: 0.75-in x 4-ft x 8-ft; Actual: 0.687-in x 3.875-ft x 7.875-ft) at Lowes.com

When I had above ground (ahh my old Intex lol), I used like pink insulation board that wouldn't collapse with the weight and pieced those together using gorilla tape. Held up like a champ.

That appears to be a link to Expanded Polystyrene Foam Board Insulation , rather than extruded Polystyrene. I'm trying to decide which to buy and would appreciate any advice.

From my understanding! And buy extra... I'm short and very frustrated!

    Re: foam for pool base

David, I'd like to hear about your progress. I just bought the same pool, it should be in Tuesday, my SWG came yesterday. My plan was to submerge it about 2 1/2 feet in the ground & build a retaining wall to keep the dirt off the sides. We're going to have a deck, but probably not until next year. There is such limited info on these pools. We just bought this house & it's the smallest house I've ever lived in, but I love it. We have a big backyard, but I'm worried sitting completely above ground, this pool is going to look horrendous compared to this little house.

    Re: foam for pool base

We used a happy pad. It was expensive, and the installer charged extra to put it on top of the sand but even they said it was amazing to walk on once the liner was in. My husband has a lot of issues with his feet and can't stand on hard surfaces barefoot and this was the best investment we made. It's like walking on cushion and the weight of the water did not break it down even after a year. There are no "divots" like we feared from walking on it. I believe I found it suggested somewhere in this forum.

How are the interlocking pads holding up? You didn't use any sand either? Are they smooth side up?

the pads are holding up great. no footprints or any compression. still nice and soft. no sand under mats. i just leveled the ground and smoothed. smooth side up.
