Frustrated!

This is our 3rd summer with the pool. 1st summer the pool was open and clear when we bought the house. 2nd summer was a play it by ear way of trying everything but it seemed to go ok. So here we are the third summer. The pool in an in-ground/vinyl lined/chlorine/sand filtered pool.

We have started opening the pool about a month ago and have still not been able to get it clear. All of the test reults from the pool store are basically normal except the TA is realy high at 200, but the PH is good and chlorine levels are good. No metals are detected.

However! Our pool is still green (a pretty light green and cloudy). And our white plastic steps keep turning orange when we put in chlorine (the only time that goes away is when we let the chlorine go down).

Welcome to TFP... A Great resource for all green pool owners.

You say your chlorine levels are good, but you really can't tell unless you know what your CYA level is...

I suspect that you have been using 3" tablets to chlorinate your pool. If so, by now your CYA may be so high that it is almost impossible to add enough chlorine to kill off the green algae.

The TFP process is based upon you testing your own pool water and then adding only what is needed to return your pool to a clear and sanitized pool you want it to be.. No more going to the Pool $tore for more magic potions, no more "shocking" your pool on weekly basis, no more chemical smells, and best of all, no more problems...

Most pool owners use only Liquid Chlorine or plain bleach and Muriatic Acid to keep their pools in perfect condition.

Hello JDenise,

That does sound frustrating, but you've landed in the right place if you want to control your own water.

First off, you must have your own test kit and test your own water. TFTestkits.net has the TF100 which is what most people use. Taylor also makes a test kit that is good. If you have your own test kit, the folks here can help you get your water cleaned up for good.

We can get you out of the rut of guessing on a fix, and not understanding why things aren't working.
