Thoughts about recycling winter water that has accumulated. Problem I'm facing is it's pretty nasty and I'm concerned it will take a lot more work to clean up than just bringing in new water.

Yes, but whether you should depends on the alternatives. Is your water expensive? Does it have metals that you would rather keep out of your pool? These are questions you have to consider because you will need to use additional chlorine to kill whatever is in the cover water, which may be more costly or more trouble than bringing in clean water.

I agree if its that nasty. That region is spotty with Iron in the water as you may well know, so just make sure you get the good stuff.
