Hayward pool light install

I have to replace my Hayward 583 astrolite pool light. Do I have to drain the water to below the light to do it? Only reason I ask is they state the need to use 3m potting compound around the ground. Perhaps I don't need to change the ground wire? Is it separate wire from the light wire?

I figured it out. Ground is seperate.
