Raypak Standard vs Hayward Heat Pro heat pumps

Hello all,

We are looking to extend our swim season a bit and it looks like the best option for us is a heat pump.

I am wanting to get your feedback on these units or others for quality and also customer service.

I also see at least Raypak requires licensed installers to not void the warranty. Are they sticklers on this point?

I believe all of the manufacturers ask that a licensed installer be used for installing the units in order to keep the warranty in place.

We just installed the raypac 8350 heat pump -- the only difference is that we opted for the model that also has the chiller feature. We absolutely love it. The goal was to extend the season and we were able to heat the pool from 60 degrees to 80 degrees in 72 hours, despite the fact that it was severely overcast with temps of 55 during the day and low 40s at night. We do have an autocover, though, which is closed at night, so that helps minimize heat loss at night and has somewhat of a solar effect in the afternoon sun (when it is out). Our pool is 30,000 gallons. The unit is quieter than I anticipated, as well. When it is on, it is barely more noticeable than the pool's filter pump.

Regarding installation, our pool builder installed ours, and that was sufficient for the warranty (as they are an authorized installer). If you are a licensed plumber, maybe just check with RayPac about what they might require?
