Hello to All,

Just wanted to get everyone's take on what is expected of neighbors that have trees. palms, etc that continue to drop debris into our pools ??

There are 4 Mexican palms that are 30 ft tall and have never had the trunks cleaned of the old frond husks and the stringy fibrous stuff that continues to fall in our pool. My shark's filters are clogged with it, the skimmers are full of it and the pump basket and what makes it to the filter system too. The large husks have been swept into the skimmers and they then starve the pump for water, plus stress out the pump.

The neighbor and we have a descent relationship, but we're are not buddy-type friends. I have my own take on it, but just wanted to see if there are any strategies others have used that worked well?

Thank you very much,
tstex

ts,

Since it appears the "mess" from his trees does not bother your neighbor, he has no real reason to do anything. So, what I would do, is ask your neighbor if he would mind if you took care of it. How could he say no...

Then hire a local yard guy to go in and do whatever needs to be done.

Even though it is his trees, it is really your problem. Every leaf that I have to take out of my pool, does not come from anything in my yard..

Thanks for posting an interesting question,

Jim R.

You will probably have to work with the neighbor to resolve the issue. While you can probably trim anything that crosses the property line, doing anything without the approval of the neighbors is likely to cause conflict.

Perhaps call in a tree specialist to see what type of maintenance can be done to mitigate the shedding.

Then negotiate with the neighbors to allow the maintenance to be done.

Relocating or removing the trees might be an option if the neighbors are willing. They would probably want you to pay for the service if they agreed at all.

If you have enough money, you could buy the house, remove the trees and then resell the house.

what is coming from the neighbor are the husks of palm trees and all the fibrous stuff that comes w them. He too has a pool so I know the junk is in his pool too, but the angle of the winds always seem to favor my pool rather than his for the debris fall-out...

I'm going to take a lot of pictures and send it to him....thanks guys

I've found that face-to-face always ends better in a neighbor dispute compared with letters....

Probably not real practical, but who knows.

Maybe start a band that likes to practice all night. Then, when the neighbor comes over to ask you to keep the noise down, you make a deal where you give up band practice if they remove the trees.

My neighbor and I had a mutual mesquite tree that was growing between the double wall that separates our property. We both agreed it was a problem - dumped mesquite debris in my pool and was starting to push up the footer of his wall. We made a deal - he agreed to have his landscape crew cut the tree to stump and I agreed to handle the stump as mesquites can be cut to the ground and will simply regrow. The mesquite is gone now...and my pool couldn't be happier for it.

Im going to talk to him over the next few weeks when he's home - he responds to my text's pretty quickly...

If it were mesquite trees, "I'd cut them down then use the wood to grill some fish or ckn...excellent wood...

I'll post some pic's of their size and all tomorrow - thank you gent's

Palm trees belong by the ocean, far far away... just sharing your pain, mate. Good luck with the neighbor.

Might be helpful to have your perfect alternative shrub or tree in mind in case that becomes part of the chat.

I'm going to show this post to my wife....no one has every accused me of giving wise advise before :)

LOL. A co-worker of mine was complaining about his boss last year who is known for always being right about everything. He said: "My boss is in his 50's and he's never been married. That means he's never been wrong, not even once in 50+ years."
